Today in Brief

I heard the morning chirping of birds yesterday as I was still finishing my tour, and awoke early to have breakfast with my Aunt, Uncle, and Cousin, so I am too sleep deprived to say anything meaningful, but at least I can say how things went...

The tour went better than I expected, but not good. But it could have gone worse, much worse. I was a wreck (I blamed nerves- but I was as sleep deprived as I was anxious)

At the end, the program manager said it went well and gave me the museum collection catalog (which means she thinks I will be a tour guide) so I passed. (and some people have to re-take theirs) There is lots of good news about what I did wrong, (mostly trying to do too much) which leads me to think I may be able to do this. Good news is she told my mentor that she can tell I am motivated...yay!

I had a great time with my family & friends. My friend came up to me and said "Can we go to the resturaunt soon...I am eating for two" I couldn't tell the whole tour and I look down, and their is her belly! So cute!

mood: tired

Hey Diana!

From your post, I think it sounds like you did a great job!

It's common to overdo a new presentation at first - It will evolve in time and become tighter as you learn what works and doesn't work. You'll refine it as you go along.

Just get some rest and take care!
Drake :)

I'm glad to hear that you had such a good tour...and I hope you sleep like a baby tonight. Sweet dreams Diana.

Richard

Is that all that went wrong? Remind me not to leave important jobs to minor devils; like unexpected cases of explosive diarrhea ; )

Diana Crabtree said...

Drake and Richard, thanks for being sweet, but didn't you read my post? I was terrible!

Kidding (sort of)

Satan- is there a chance you delegated the work to the "get Diana to drink coffee at 8PM" devils?

Drake said...

Hello again, Diana!

Yes, I did read your post, but I focused on the positive in it - Which coming from a pessimist like me is saying something! ;)

We are usually the most critical of ourselves.

Rest up!
Drake :)

Yes, Diana, I read your post....and I saw that the manager said it went well...and that you were motivated...those are pretty significantly "Good" things...you know?

Richard

Diana Crabtree said...

You are too right Drake.

I did not do as well as I had hoped- but pretty good considering my preperation level!

I was laying in bed thinking about the fact that I made it through a grueling 6 month training course for a volunteer position, in a field I had little knowledge about, and even recieved a "perfect attendance" award- a big feat for a person with social phobia surrounded by artsy hipsters...I PASSED! (not all of the arty hipsters did) and I can't even give myself a little pat on the back?

I thought I would feel free as a bird right now...but no.

You are right on. How mean we can be to ourselves...and the suicidal ideation comes from where?

Diana Crabtree said...

Thanks Richard...you are so right, those are good things...GOD IM SO STUPID! GEEZ!

(kidding)- not funny, but...kinda funny

Anonymous said...

Success is sometimes harder to feel good about than failure is to feel bad about... you set yourself up to fail in some ways...a lack of self confidence mainly..but you are so clearly capable...the volunteer thing is a good example...just the way you put it...all you accomplished....it's like you baked a great cake and now you can't stand it and have to stick your finger in it....it's an impulsive thing... but you are used to conflict and conflict resolution, so that's where you take yourself too eventually...

and...I think you probably recognize that...i'm not telling you anything surprisingly unique or new, I'm sure....

You deserve not a little, but a large pat on the back, from yourself...

Richard

If I were right there in front you of you...I would gently take you by the shoulders and tell you to look at me...and i would say "please don't use the word 'stupid'... you are so FAR from stupid it can't be measured....you're a very bright lady who has difficulty recognizing her own accomplishments....

Richard

Diana Crabtree said...

I really was joking in the "stupid" comment

Thanks- no you aren't telling me something I don't realize- but the reinforcement is helpful.

BTW where is your blog?

Anonymous said...

Well, I don't have a blog. Am I disqualified?

R

Diana Crabtree said...

Yes. You are disqualified from all "best blog" contests

G3T Films said...

I win all those don't ya know!!!

Diana Crabtree said...

You win the prize for fewest posts ever written

G3T Films said...

I would like to thank the Acadamy anbd all those people who believed in me. I really believe that without them I would never have thought outside the box and produced such a great, insulting, blog with so little effort.

*Satan holds Trophy above his head*

Thank you my people.

Anonymous said...

I can live with that. I spend too much time playing music to have a blog worth maintaining... so ..have you patted yourself on the back yet?

R

Diana Crabtree said...

*music drowns out Satans voice mod-speech*

Diana Crabtree said...

I am yet to actually pat myself on the back, but I promised myself I would by Kraftwerk CDs when this was over...so I might tomorrow

G3T Films said...

*Satan gets pissed and head butts Billy Crystal on the way out*

Diana Crabtree said...

My dad played Kraftwerk when I was a kid, I still have the records but no player.

They were playing at the coffee shop when I was preparing for the tour...I realized then that the perfect pinnacle of music has already been created

G3T Films said...

*Crowd give Satan standing ovation*

Anonymous said...

Well, if you don't do it by tomorrow morning, and say so, I'm going to remind you again, just keep that in mind....

Sleep well Diana, and sweet dreams.

Richard

Diana Crabtree said...

Thanks Richard...Goodnight

G3T Films said...

Cool, when you give her that reminder I'll use it as my reminder to give that explosive diarrhea. Bwahahhahhaaaaha

Diana Crabtree said...

Hey Satan- i never said I didn't have explosive diarrehea

G3T Films said...

Ahhh, this was the angle for your tour. You stood on a canvas, let fly, and Bingo there was a new piece of modern art.

Anonymous said...

Let's see....

sleep well and sweet dreams... or...I'll give you explosive diarrhea...

How could a girl ever choose???

Smilingly,

Richard

G3T Films said...

There's a choice to be made...

P-lease

G3T Films said...

Oops, left my smilie of the end Richard ; )

Diana Crabtree said...

Satan is spoken for, so even though I am charmed by the explosive diarreah threats, I know it isn't meant to be.

G3T Films said...

Nah, I broke up with her last night because I couldn't bear a life without you Diana.

Diana Crabtree said...

You mean it?! Diarreah...for life?

Diana Crabtree said...

How on God's green earth do you spell diarreah?
Diareah
Diareahh
Diarhea

G3T Films said...

Yup, for sure, we'll cut a brown swath from one hemisphere to the other.

I think I just grossed myself out

G3T Films said...

di·ar·rhe·a also di·ar·rhoe·a ( P ) Pronunciation Key (d-r)
n.
Excessive and frequent evacuation of watery feces, usually indicating gastrointestinal distress or disorder.

Diana Crabtree said...

The dictionary definition is what did it to me...blech!

G3T Films said...

blech is an understatement.

I can't believe it took me that long to gross you out. I must be slipping. (Hopefully not in diarrhea)

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww

Diana Crabtree said...

You know, I am surprised it took that long too.

I am tired, but caffineated, and besides, the Museum has a peice from an artist who poops in cans (and I think the cans need special handling...because they are chemically unstable...IM SERIOUS!)

G3T Films said...

I KNOW! I've seen his work in exhibition. I wouldn't have thought they were too unstable though. The cans are completely sealed, like dog food cans. Unless there's two poop in a can artists.

Diana Crabtree said...

I am sure they the same (I sure hope so)

Do you remember his name?

I know...I will consult my new collection catalog (under "poop" in the index)

G3T Films said...

Ahhh, *Satan wipes tear* that had me in much mirth. No, I can't remember his name. It was a while ago now.

G3T Films said...

I lied it was Piero Manzoni

Diana Crabtree said...

thanks, i am looking him up

Diana Crabtree said...

Ok, now that I think of it I think we don't have any of the cans because of the instability...but we have other things

Diana Crabtree said...

Are you a Matthew Barney fan?

G3T Films said...

Well you do that, enjoy! I think the peice had a french name; 'something la merde' or 'merde le whatever'.

I have to head off. Don't stay up too late you caffeine junkie!

Have a good night - I won't be sooo slopy as to offer you sweet dreams and kisses. Instead, I'll return the *smack* (That's the sound of a fresh Kipper being slapped against your...)

G3T Films said...

He does all those cool sculptures with Maniquins right? wrong?

Diana Crabtree said...

He's a filmmaker (The Cremaster Cycle)

Go home

*smack*

Diana Crabtree said...

Whats a kipper?

G3T Films said...

Ahhhh, I'm sure I've seen some sculptures by him, anyway, I've not seen his films.

I'm not going home, I'm going of to see one of my many mistrisses.

Don't worry they're all imaginary, I am going home. Stay cool chicken morangoe.

G3T Films said...

"Smoke me a kipper I'll be back for breakfast" - Lord Flash Heart

It's a type of english fish. Ussually eaten for Brekky. Very nice!

Diana Crabtree said...

I thought fish.

You should use more Australian slang like "brekky"

Nighty!

G3T Films said...

I just Googled that Barney fellow, I'm definately thinking of someone else. His films look pretty cool though. A nice helping of Bizarro anyone.

G3T Films said...

You wouldn't understand me if I used real Austrlain slang.

Anyway, must choof off.

For tommorrow morning; What do you think of Matthew Barney

Diana Crabtree said...

lots of mormon stuff...layers upon layers of meaning... visually stunning...too much for tonight...

anyway there is a room dedicated to one of his films, and an installation in itself at the museum

but if you haven't heard of him than big whoop right? (I imagined you a film nerd)

G3T Films said...

See ya 'round like a risolle'

Yeah thanks, a little nerdy maybe

Diana Crabtree said...

Not nerdy enough apparantly ;)

sleep tight

G3T Films said...

*Yawn* that was a good sleep.

You're so right, I'm not a nerd. I think it harks back to that 'do it, don't talk about it' philosophy. I've won my fair share of awards, so it seems to work to my advantage.

I do love experimental film though, but I don't actually turn to America very often for influence. I'ts not true snobbery, it's just that I'm really tired of the American aesthetic. Seen it, know it, done it. Like most American cinema of the last ten years it feels like they're waiting for someone else to give them the cues. If I've missed some great artists in the meanwhile I can live with that, there are some amazing people elsewhere that make up for it. Damnation, I really am such a snob?!

Oh well. I'll check outthis cremaster cycle thingy : )

Diana Crabtree said...

All the best film is from Mumbai

G3T Films said...

Hehehehe

Only yours!

Diana Crabtree said...

Calling him a filmmaker may have been inappropriate. Film is a major media that he is known for.

The installation at the museum is designed by him and includes props from cremaster 2. I haven't seen any of them, and I am dying to, but they play them on weekends (I usually work weekends)

They used to have cremaster 2 on a loop and I saw about 10 minutes of it. It was georgeous and totally bizzare. I should call in sick one day, just to see it, tee hee.

What a snob. I can't say if it's justified or out of line, most of the films I watch are from blockbuster video, because my mailbox is too small to have netflix. But it wouldn't surprise me if you could find braver things outside the US.

Like in Mumbai.

G3T Films said...

I guess this shows how out of date I am on American film. It's about the last time I really went in search of good US experimental. I chose this as an example because you'd probably find it interesting.

If he makes films, then he's a filmmaker. I think the stuff that I thought was Maniquins was actually Cremaster 4. I've only seen photos.

PS. Blockbuster rocks! Well, OK, maybe not rocks, but it's a good source for DVD's. You'll see lots of films I've worked on there anyway.

Diana Crabtree said...

That does look interesting, which is why I don't love Blockbuster. I live in a fabulous neighborhood with plenty of good video stores, but renting a DVD is like $4. I just can't get myself to do it! Blockbuster has unlimited rentals for $15/month so I watch what I can find. It may just be the one by my house but half the time when I look for a specific film I cant find it...but they have 30 copies of "Anchorman"

Diana Crabtree said...

Ha Ha you talk the artsy talk but you are mainstream all the way! Ha ha

This is coming from someone who talks about but doesn't do

G3T Films said...

I know exactly what you mean. It takes a lot of time to find those rare gems. There's a TV film critic here who owns the best private film archive in Australia. Lot's of rare aussie stuff. I've been invited a few times to go and see the collection but I can never bring myself to go over. Mmmm... maybe that's why he did like my last film... nah, it was crap to begin with. ; )

G3T Films said...

I am so not mainstream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been involved with main stream films, YES. I've made a main stream film, NO. Geeeesh

Diana Crabtree said...

Please look at my list of favorite films, I am mainstream to the core...I am just giving you shit.

The bully puts someone else down to bring themselves up ;)

If you go to the critic's house, be sure to tell them your partner will turn them into a mandolin and play contemporary Christian music on them if they try anything "want to come over and see my film collection?" sounds pretty sketchy to me ;)

Diana Crabtree said...

but maybe it would get you a better review ;)

G3T Films said...

I can live with those movies. I do the best impression of that wierd quiet guy in Office Space. "I,I, I, it's my stapler". Pretty good huh?

Don't worry Miss Bully, I was being overly dramatic. I've actually worked on some Hollywooders that were sooooo much fun. Never trade in that experience.

Actually Jay Katz has a wife and so forth. He opens his collection (now that does sound naughty) to a variety of filmmakers. It's to help them with their projects. It's quite an honour to get an invite and I should go and see it. It's just they're so wanky about film. It's annoying when people are all about appearances.

G3T Films said...

Should I care what a critic thinks. They're all failed filmmakers. Hehehehhe

Diana Crabtree said...

OK, I want you to continue to use the Australian slang, but what is wanky?

And since when does someone having a wife mean you wont get hit on? Puh-leeez!

Do you just see the boxes? I don't know how exciting it would be to see a room with a bunch of boxes. But I could see going to show you appreciate being invited.

Your impression was great, heres mine..."Yeah, Im gonna have to have you go ahead and send me another comment. That would be great...thanks" (not bad huh?) When I went to Philly the FO and I talked like that the whole time, and the poor captian hadn't seen the movie.

G3T Films said...

Wanky is probably best left undescribed, it's a form of let's say... Pleasuring oneself.

You're absolutely right about the wife thing... So... 'How you doin'

No, you get to see a selection of films. He's got some beauties.

Ah yeah, that's like, the best impersonation I've ever read, but, ah, I'm going have to ask you to come in on the weekend and work on it, ah, thanks...

Anyway, I've got some work to do that's not at my desk so I'll check you later. Chow bella.

Diana Crabtree said...

Again with the Australian slang...what is "work"?

G3T Films said...

That thing you do between beers

Diana Crabtree said...

OK..."chow"
